Need some help with my ftp

ok guys this has been doing my head in for ages now i have a mentor router i have setup 2 machines using the router one in my room the other in my brothers room.
i want to set up an ftp site in my router i don't have a port forwarding option but have this-

Virtual Server

You can configure the Broadband Router as a virtual server so that remote users accessing services such as the Web or FTP at your local site via public IP addresses can be automatically redirected to local servers configured with private IP addresses. In other words, depending on the requested service (TCP/UDP port number), the Broadband Router redirects the external service request to the appropriate server (located at another internal IP address).

mapping ports / server ip / enabled

it has this option above under virtual server what should i type in here under mapping ports and server ip i suppose my ip adress for my machine would go in?

any help appreciated

Did you try using "Add Network Place Wizard"? brad

Hi Brad,

i never used that option i got my router home and i plugged the cable from

router to cable modem
1st pc to router
2nd pc to router

typed in the ip config /all options and we both got on the internet should i have used the netwok wizard?

To get set-up on an FTP you need to use the wizard. C Drive / Network Connections / Add Network Place. brad

Not really sure how the network connections wizard will help...but. For the information you've jotted down - on the 'Virtual Server' you'll need to put in whatever the IP address is of the PC you are hosting the FTP server on.

So if you want to run an ftp server on your PC 192.168.1.1, make public port 21 and private port 21 (Default ports for ftp servers) and the Host IP Address 192.168.1.1. Do this for each port you want to allow hosts on the Internet to access.

Do you also have the ability to setup port ranges? If so you might want to setup some passive ports for your clients connecting to the FTP server. If not they'll just need to disable passive mode when connecting.

Do what NaTaS has suggested. My suggestion, using the "Add Network Places Wizard" is for setting up a link to your FTP, sorry.
