Go to the Norton web site here is the link

there is a link for a removal tool. download it to the desktop and run it. That should kill it, there is a chance that it is not a complete removal, so if it finishes running with errors, run the removal tool again in safe mode.

I would download HijackThis from here www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

Save it in a folder anywhere but your desktop, run the program and click "Save Log" and post it.

Also, if you haven't already, download Adaware SE Personal 1.05 from here www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
Check for updates then run a Full System Scan.

Also, make sure you have the newest version of AVG, 7.0, from here

Thankyou for all your sugestions with the icons, i am running a current virus scanner which is uptodate(autoupdate), i think i have found the problem being the desktop icon file is corrupted.

Try removing the icons from the desktop and replacing them by right click on the desktop, new, shortcut and browse for them.
