can anyone recommend a good freeware registry cleaning programme i can trust, one that will give my registry a spring clean of old and unwanted entries, thanks

The best one that I know of is

It's not free but you can use it for 30 days with full features, long enough to fix up your registry

I've been using the jv16 power tools several years now, I also run at the same time from the cd Nortons SystemWorks Win Doctor. The two complement each other nicely--they don't go after the same things. Don't load System Works on the hard drive, its a resource hog--elephant is more like it.

I've been testing CCleaner the last week and it seems a little rough on the registry, it messed up my gif file assignment properties.
