Gecko... We almost got Satellite Internet. We tried for two years to get DSL. We got the DSL line about a week before we were going to order thru Direct TV. Check it out. They claim it's speeds are comparable to dsl. (about 500 kbps) For our location, we had to have a 100% clear shot of the southern horizon for the dish. brad

hey...I recently checked this out, and decided not to go with satellite for my purposes. from what i found satellite is great for streaming uploads or downloads, but for gaming, there are latency issues. every time a piece of information needs to be sent/recieved, there is a small lag for airtime/sat processing. not a huge problem for large downloads, but large problem for gaming.

True. But in the case of Dial-up vs. Satellite as the only option.... No Question.

Thank you brad for the link, it looks like Direct TV with Direct Way is what I will be ordering.
Also thank you Koozie fro you input, I am not a gamer so any slight lag issue will not be a problem for me.
It will be an expense increase though, right now we have basic cable only $9.95 a month plus my DSL that’s $34.95 a month. It looks like it’s going to be at least $99 a month not including all the hardware that I will have to buy.

That price is for both Direct TV and Direct Way Internet access.
There is no cable TV even available yet, I was told that cable was planned for my area the second half of 2005.
I can’t wait that long to get more than 3 to 4 stations at best with an antenna.
