no icons on desktop

All versions of Window XP and 2003 including 32 bit and 64 bit

no icons on desktop

running windows 98..my computer boots up but nothing appears on desktop. when i click ctrl,alt and delete, task manager window appears but shows nothing running. tried re installing win 98 but the same problem happens. any idea's please

All the searching I did suggested re-installing Win98 over itself, which you say you already tried.
What about this: Is your Desktop set to "View as a Web Page"? If so, is the "Hide Icons" box selected? (Right Click Desktop and select "Properties" / Effects Tab)
