If you look the before and after defrag are the same but it shows that i have fragmented files. Why is this?

thast not what i mean. The bottom bar is Estimated after defrag, which still has fragmented files. When i tookl the print screen it was on 1% but it complted. It also diddnt take that long to defrag. Old pc used to take ages.
So same question as before if any one knows the answer please, why is the fragmented files after drfrag the same?

As far as I can tell your defragging session had just started. Did it look like that at the end ?

The second 'bar' shows the way your files are changing being moved and arranged... it shows the progess.

Here's mine after 9%.... at 1% they were virtually identical..

Chill when you defrag, venney.... I actually enjoy it.... shhhhh!!! hehehe

But they will be the same ... unless i am misunderstanding something... at 1% your defragging has only just begun so the difference at first will be minimal and almost unnoticeable.

You can not defrag system files because they are in use by the OS

re fragments

Postby badpolarbear » Fri Dec 17, 2004 9:33 pm

As advanced as hard drives have become, one item they are not very good at is housekeeping, or maybe that should be drive keeping. When files are created, deleted, or modified it's almost a certainty they will become fragmented. Fragmented simply means the file is not stored in one place in its entirety, or what computer folks like to call a contiguous location. Different parts of the file are scattered across the hard disk in noncontiguous pieces. The more fragmented files there are on a drive, the more performance and reliability suffer as the drive heads have to search for all the pieces in different locations. The Disk Defragmenter Utility is designed to reorganize noncontiguous files into contiguous files and optimize their placement on the hard drive for increased reliability and performance.

Note: Venney you should make your pictures smaller so this kind of thing doesnt happen. This was a hard post to read because of having to scroll back and forth across the screen

re van pic

Postby badpolarbear » Fri Dec 17, 2004 11:13 pm

I remember it well lilpink, those were the days I didnt know how to post pictures, I admit to the error, I learned from it. Now if you would like a picture of the van again I could send you one that just the hood ornament would take up your whole screen if you like. I would be very happy to do that just for you.

I suppose you park the fFerrari next to the Jag which is parked beside the Lamborgini which is parked beside the Rolls
