XP upgrade

Postby jw2960 » Thu Nov 25, 2004 9:35 am

currently the computer i want to upgrade is running windows ME and i want to install XP. The machine is a PIII, around 1 ghtz, and 127 meg of ram. Is this a smart thing to do?

also, ad-aware keeps locking up on me when i try to fix the problems it finds. it gets through the quarentine process(slowly) and then sits in the deleting proccess for ever. any thoughts??

thanks a lot

How long is forever? I've found that with some problems, spybot can appear to hang but if you leave it for about half an hour it suddenly comes to life again & finishes off!

As to your main problem, you can certainly run XP on that machine, however it's not going to be the fastest in the world. It would probably help most if you upgraded the memory a bit...

I'm running a PIII 1000 with one gig of memory and it runs just about as fast as my P4 2.4 with 500 meg of ram. Load on some memory and a 64 or 128 meg video card and it should be sweet with XP
