New Laptop, New Wireless

Postby fishoutofwater579 » Thu Nov 11, 2004 4:09 pm

I have just purchased a new Dell Inspiron 8600. It came with a wireless card built into and I don't know how to work it, or make it work. I scan for wireless networks and find a few that are unencrypted. I then try to connect and the dialog box with the waiting for network box appears and it waits and the little blue bar goes across the thing. Nothing happens after that. What am I doing wrong and what should I do?

Do you have your own wireless network set up?

Sounds like your trying to tap into someone else's network and chances are that your not going to be very sucessful.

I unlocked this topic for the sake of explaination. My recommendation is if you want to make use of your wireless network card is to get a wireless router and create a network between your notebook and your desktop machines. You can share files and internet between the two,we will be more than happy to help you with that.If you connect to someone else's network withough authorization you are commiting a felony. As pointed out above...the networks in your area are (or should be) protected to prevent the exact thing your trying to do.
