Postby robbro » Wed Oct 27, 2004 4:19 pm

okay i got this weird situation, my hard drive makes this noise like the power is off? then it come sback on if you get what i mean. This doesnt happen a lot just every now and then my pc freezes and it makes that noise...

I know its not a virus cuz ive scanned, looked at hijack logs, run spybot S&D and found nowt thats unusual.

Maybe my need a new hard drive? any suggestions whats wrong? im a bit worried incase the hard drive does that and doesnt read again or blows up :/ .

Maybe im overloading my PSU ? i aint a clue but it still works fine so i aint a clue whats wrong now :S seems okay then just does that again freezes makes that noise hmm please reply to this if anyone knows what im on about :P.

Thanks robbro.

Your Logfile is pretty clean robbro...

You can stop the SunJavaUpdateSched from running on Start-Up though...it's not needed at Start-Up.
This is completly optional, but will run a tad better.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

jusched.exe

Turn off System Restore. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0\bin\jusched.exe
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0\bin\npjpi150.dll
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0\bin\npjpi150.dll

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders (WinXp has up to 4 of them) / Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your "Recycle Bin" and Reboot.

Turn on System restore, before opening your browser goto TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS and make sure your Homepage is correct,if not ,type the URL you would like in the HomePage box.

If all your settings like Restek suggested are correct then you might be looking at a bad HDD.
Try running SCAN DISK and see if any errors are found.
You can still transfer all your data and files if it turns out to be just that...a dieing HDD!

Usually in C: drive as SCANDISK.LOG

Goto START>FIND>FILES FOLDERS
Type: scandisk.log

Sounds more like a failing CPU fan to me. Take the side off the case and next time you get the noise and the PC freezes see if the CPU fan is still running. The Fan might need cleaning rather than replacing.

If you're running XP, the logfile is in the event viewer..

To view the Event Log, select Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer

There is a separate log for :
- System : Windows logs here all its event for devices
- Security :
- Application : Other programs than Windows XP itself can log here their events

Events are classified by "Type" :

Information :
Warning : should be checked
Error : must be checked
