XP acting real slowwww after cleaning with SpyBot & Ad-a

Postby CanadianTek » Mon Oct 18, 2004 12:25 am

Hey folks,

cleaned 757 spies out with Spybot v1.3
cleaned another 18 out using Ad-Aware
Shut off a couple spies in msconfig.. so they would not auto load on next boot

Ran bazooka, found a few more, but could not access the online dictionary,
so i generated a log file,

went into the log file, found 5 more offenders, followed their paths and deleted the files and folders identified in the log,

then went into the registry and deleted the keys or values as described by the generated log in bazooka

then added AVG,

found 5 viruses, 3 were healed and 2 to the virus vault

deleted all files in the temp and temp internet file folders (over 500 megs worth)

added zone alarm.. - configured,

every thing looked good, updated the above apps to make sure they had the right patches.. and re ran the progs.. all pretty good..

went out to the net,

slower then molasses... and it is a high speed dsl

shut off modem and reinstalled access manager just incase one of the above offending spies or viruses had corrupted or clobbered anything..

reconnected modem, rebooted, all looked good

until i tried to surf... -- dog slow..

now.. outlook express seemed to be working.. albeit, a little slow too..

so

i decided to run HJT, it is the only version i had available

and here is the report

First let's Set Windows to show Hidden files and folders
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

**(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders. This is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)**

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

DR_S.exe

Turn off System Restore. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

The next are optional, but recommended for removal,Resource hogs and not needed on startup, but does not disable the program:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - Startup: Acrobat Assistant.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Distillr\AcroTray.exe
O4 - Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

Go to Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs and remove the
following if they are there:

DR_S

Now delete these Folders or Files that are Highlighted: (You may need enable "Show all Files" and disable "Hide System Files" in Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / View Tab) (You may have to boot to "Safe Mode" in order to delete some Files/Folders)

C:\Program Files\DR_S\DR_S.exe

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders (WinXp has up to 4 of them) / Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your "Recycle Bin" and Reboot.

Turn on System restore,before opening your browser goto TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS and make sure your Homepage is correct,if not ,type the URL you would like in the HomePage box.

Now re-run HJT and post a new logfile back here.
