Quite a lot of questions...

Postby Freddie » Sun Sep 21, 2003 10:57 am

I have decided to upgrade my old 1.4ghz AMD. But i am not sure what i shold get. My motherboard is an ASUS A7A266, my manual revision is 1.0.4 E828. I would like to know how far i can upgrade it. I was told that i could put an AMD XP 2600 in it. But somewhere else said that i could only have a 14ghz thunderbird. They said something about a revison PCB or something but i wasn't sure. Would you be able to tell me what procressor i could put in it and what bugs there will be. Thnaks.

According to the Asus web site, the A7A266-E motherboard with PCB revision 1.04, the fastest CPU’s that are supported with this revision are the Athlon 1400 (266 MHz FSB) or the Duron 1300 (Model 7)(Morgan) you would have to have a PCB revision of 1.11 and a BIOS version of 1012.001 in order to support a faster CPU.
So you already have the fastest CPU supported by your motherboard revision, you would have to get a new motherboard in order to upgrade your CPU.

O.K i have been looking around and i have found out what they mean my 1.8ghz, 1.8ghz is an amd 2200+ which to what i can see is the fastest amd chhip to use a 266mhz fsb (which ym board has). I want to know if i can but and amd 2600+ in my pc like anouther website said. But that uses a 333mhz fsb would i be able to put a 333mhz chip into an 266mhz fsb comp. Thanks again for all of your help!!

Your motherboard would have to specifically support that FSB speed - check the manufacturer for specs & BIOS updates :)
