mysearchnow hell!

Postby Jazzman » Sun Oct 10, 2004 2:44 pm

Hi guys!

My friend had the Mysearchnow bug in all its glory. It was affecting everything he did, restricting site access, adding toolbars and shortcuts, and making the computer almost unusable. We used HiJackthis, Bazooka, Adaware, Spybot and looked through MSCONFIG and even did some painstaking manual registry editing - but it wouldn't go. So, he gave up; formatted his hard disk and reinstalled windows (XP pro). Unbelievabley, it was still there.

How on earth is this possible? I have suggested it may be a program he is installing or a website he is visiting that is 'carrying' it. Any other suggestions?

Cheers

Hi Jazzman ... Could you please
Download Hijackthis
---Important---Create a permanent folder
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT ---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too, also, backups will be stored there.
Download from here
http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe

Do a SCAN----Scan will change to SAVE LOG----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log
here... Don't try and fix anything yet----most entries are harmless and needed.

Hello Jazzman

I agree with Demalii, if fdisk was not used on the hard drive chances are that the Mysearchnow is still on the drive.
I would follow the instructions given by Cactus and post a HJT logfile in this thread.
