sending mail through exchange server

Postby mikeUK » Tue Oct 05, 2004 3:25 pm

hi,

I have a server that is collecting mail (pop3) through microsoft exchange server 2003.

the mail is then distributed through the network to the other computers, which are set up to recieve through exchange server.

The only PROBLEM I have at the moment is a rather important 1! How can I set the computers to send mail? (smtp)

they work when you go to send mail on another account that doesnt run with microsoft exchange, but it wont work otherwise.

can someone please provide step by step instructions because I have to e-mail them to someone else so they can set it up.

the client computers are running microsoft outlook 2003 and running through a domain.
(windows small business server 2003)

thanks in advance

You need to set the exchange server up as an smtp server, or other wise can you not send using the smtp server for the ISP who provides the original pop3 mailbox?

Remembr if you are running exchange server to collect mail from your ISP.. then you need to configure it with the MX server addresses of your ISP.. the problem is that your exchange server doesn't know where to send the outgoing mail..

launch your exchange system manager and update the settings to point to your ISPs mail servers..

you may also need to add pointer records to the ISP servers in your active directory.. depending on how your ISP handles mail..
