Windows Update

Postby Geekgirl » Sat Aug 28, 2004 7:29 pm

Hello all Image

I was wondering why Microsoft changed their Windows Update site for XP users.
If you go to Windows Update while using XP it takes you with different options than with Windows Update using 98.

I get the SP2 update available for XP but not for 98 is that just for Xp O.S.?

Click these 2 links to see the difference

*edit
 grrr hmm your not going to be able to see the difference. Not sure what I was thinking but I thought you could see the difference.....but you can't unless your using to different O.S. to see.
Did anyone notice the change in their site recently?????

All the links take me to the same udate window. I edited this using 2 diff O.S. pasting the different links into the post. When I use XP to open up the links I get all the same page and when I use my 98 machine I get all the same page.

What O.S. you using lilpink?

XP.... but not long ago i was 98

I'm not sure what you mean by differences in the Window's Update pages... I'm scared to comment in case I sound daft.... but the pages are completely different...is that what you mean ???
...and the dotty thing that shows it's searching for updates is snazzier on the XP one... hahahahahaha....

This release of SP2 is for XP users only... :)

Win98 has a Windows Critical Update available.

Well ...I know nothing BUT I dl'd SP2 and it seems to be all about security.... the XP firewall n stuff, pop-up stopper etc....

98 doesn't have a MS firewall ? ...and I spose that maybe they have designed it to run with XP and not 98..... dunno why.... shocking discrimination lol..... guess they want peeps to upgrade :P

About the difference in the Update pages... I just presumed the 2 OS's had different updates... ??!! hmmm.... thereby Xp has got a modern page cos its newer and 98's page looks older cos it's been around longer lol

Different dl's on each i presume... 2 seperate things.... i think ?

:wobble:

There is a difference...Microsoft has revamped the Update site.
SP2 for Win98 will be avail through an Automatic Update through this new site when it's complete.

Cactus.... :)

PS..for now for Win98 users...get the Windows Critical Update that is available now.

Yeah they have changed - winXP users get version 5 of windows update, 98 users get v4. This new version is meant to be easier to navigate for users :)
