Don't try to fool us....We know that's your brand new computer... lol
Download / Install / and Update: . Now Run it and post a copy of the Log File here.
**(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders. This is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)**

Sorry hue_jass, in my opinion, 98SE has been the most stable and reliable O.S. thus so far.

brad, I think she can't download the lastest version on that PC. It seems hosed. She posted the one log she could get with the older version.

Oh sorry. Thanks for the translation, PCguy. :)

Here's the "Fix" using the old Log File:

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:[/b]

F1 - win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\INETM\SERVICES.EXE
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5321E378-FFAD-4999-8C62-03CA8155F0B3} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xp_system] C:\WINDOWS\INETM\SERVICES.EXE
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [xp_system] C:\WINDOWS\INETM\SERVICES.EXE

Now delete these Folders or Files that are Highlighted: (You may need enable "Show all Files" and disable "Hide System Files" in Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / View Tab) (You may have to boot to "Safe Mode" and rename them, in order to delete some Files/Folders)

C:\WINDOWS\INETM

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders (WinXp has up to 4 of them) / Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your "Recycle Bin" and reboot.

Blimey lol..... an OS war has been started in my name

Just to be diplomatic.. I love both XP and my 98se.... i haven't got a clue which is more stable...I'll let you know in a years time when I've stressed my XP out haha

back to Gail's comp.... hmmm I will have more info on it tomorrow... let's just say the atmospherics of the house made my job nigh on impossible... I'm talking screaming kids and an even worse screaming mum...... not me, honest !! lol

Anyway.... I tried to set up the new Hijackthis... it wudnt work... i tried to dl Winzip... it wudn't work... infact her Google is scary as hell... some of the links take me to allsorts of strange things hehe.... and her desktop gets new additions every boot.

I will have more peace tomorrow.... and hopefully will be able to concentrate a bit more

Now you know I'm well n truly a woman cos ive just bibbled on about nothing because really i had nuthing to say hahahahahaha...... :|

I think what she is trying to say is that the person she is helping had a crazy house so she couldnt concentrate on fixing the problem. She will go back at it tomorrow.

The other thing is that the PC wont allow her to install anything, even Notepad wouldnt work. I think there is a bunch of viruses haunting the PC preventing things from running.

She will post a new log tomorrow after downloading and burning HJT on a CD.

Did you get that this time? :)

Yes. Just wondered why, or if, the "Fix" helped. Service.exe is what's going on.......
