Another New Hijackthis Log File

Postby RobK » Wed Jul 28, 2004 1:11 am

The nature of the problem is that the default homepage continuously resets to free4search. Also, hotmail is inoperable, along with a few other sites but to the fact that the page automatically jumps to free4search after a few seconds. Have already used spybot and ad-aware. Here's the log file, I would really appreciate your help, I am so close to solving the problem with a sledge hammer.

Hi..Saving in your TEMPORARY DIRECTORY is NOT advisable,as the back-ups will be DELETED during our cleaning. Please delete the following folder first
C:\Documents and Settings\Home\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis1.98.zip\HijackThis.exe

Now..
Would you please download Hijackthis---Important---Create a permanent folder
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT ---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too, also, backups will be stored there.
Download from here
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe
or here
http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe

Now run HJT again and post a new logfile.

Download CWShredder and save it to desktop
http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/10/ ... -150.shtml

Next: with only CWShredder open let it FIX all problems

RESTART your computer
Don't open a browser yet, instead access Internet Options via Control
Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General tab---Delete files + offline content---Also Reset home page.

If you haven't done so already Download and Install
Ad-Aware

CHECK FOR UPDATES
Set these for a Custom Scan
click the gear wheel at the top and check these options:

General> activate these: "Automatically save log-file" and "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"

Scanning > activate these: "Scan within archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep scan registry", "Scan my IE Favorites for banned sites" and "Scan my Hosts file"

Tweaks > Scanning Engine> activate this: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: activate these: "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Click "Proceed" to save your settings, then click "Start", make sure "Activate in-depth scan" is ticked green then scan your system. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".
Ensure you reboot after running Ad-Aware if it found objects
to remove, so it can properly remove them.

Download SpyBot
http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10122137.html
Fix everything in RED...

Run HTJ and post a fresh logfile.

Actually that see,s to have done the trick, I still have a few dodgy looking addresses in the favourite folder but I'm not getting re-directed anymore.
Thanks a million, would have been lost without the help.

Sorry, but it seems the solution was only temporary. Am now getting the homepage as super-spider.com and am getting re-directed there also. Hav eperformed all the appropriate scans, I think, ad-aware, spybot, etc. Here's the logfile from hijackthis.

Hmmm....somethings not right here.
On the 29th you did a HJT scan using the newest Version 1.98 and posted the logfile.
Now today you posted a new logfile but you used the older Version of HJT 1.97.

Did you not delete the original HJT Folder before downloading the newer version?
Re-run version 1.98 and post your logfile again.
