Internet explorer 6

Postby noby » Fri Jul 23, 2004 12:41 pm

hey guys,

I'm experiencing lately that i cannot use the previous and next buttons in IE 6. When i try, it says "cannot open page"
To my knowledge, I have all the updates installed.
Did anyone see something like this? and what could be the cause?
I'm running XP SP1 + updates, NAV 2003, Adaware and spybot.
I did not notice other strange things

I don't really have any advice on the forward/backward buttons other than to try un-installing/ re-installing internet explorer.

This is also a good time to try to sell you on alternative browser technologies. Mozilla Firefox is the browser I now use for the majority of my browsing. it's only like 4.5 megs to download, and it works really well... it even has password storing, and auto-fill like IE does.
The added benefit is you no longer have to open internet explorer, which is the program that over 50% of microsoft's security patches are for... you effectively secure your computer by simply not running IE.

edit: Most adware/spyware is designed to install itself through and attach itself to Internet Explorer... I haven't seen a single spyware progrm in adaware for the month I've been running firefox.

Are you referring to the Back and Forward buttons? hmmm I have IE6 and don't see previous or next buttons.
Have you tried to reset your toolbar? You can try to remove it and then add it again.
Go to view>Toolbars>Customize

answers to both :
GG : you are correct of course, but having another language, sometimes i have to guess what it could be in English.
Teststrips: what you say is true, and i know that, but is that not like saying you cannot use the motorway at high speed because there are others and you can have an accident? And i do not know if it is available in other languages ?
But still no answer to my question though.

still listening to Radio PCTF

Hi Noby...try this and see if this works:

Bring up your browser and surf a bit and then press...

Alt+Left arrow: Go back
Alt+Right arrow: Browse forward

Hey Cactus, thanks for the reply, but to make things worse, it does not do it always. Right now on station PCTF it works normally. So I will have to do a bit of checking. Willtry your suggestion though. BTW the knobs seem to work, but they don't bring me to the previous / next page, only to the "page not found" page.

I'll be hearing from ye!

Hey Noby...

Read this, dunno if it will solve your prob but something to look into anyway.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... US;q229684

You could try this....

Close any open Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer windows.

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT

Go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

There are 3 sub keys: Explorer, ShellBrowser, WebBrowser'

In each of these sub-keys is the entry for ITBarLayout
For IE Toolbars: The WebBrowser Sub-key directly affects IE.
For Windows Explorer Toolbars: The Explorer Sub-key directly affects
Explorer.
The ShellBrowser sub-key may affect IE as well. Its effect on IE and
Windows Explorer is unknown at this time, so if the first option doesn't
work, delete the ITBarLayout value here as well.

Choose the relavent sub-key and right click where it says ITBarLayout and
select Delete.

The deleted value will automatically be recreated for you.

You may want to right click on the main key (above) and select Export. This
will allow you to backup the contents of the whole key, including subkeys.

Cactus,

ithink the MS link is not what i have, because the keys are there and work, but bring me to "page not found". So a bit later today I'll try your second idea out

thanks for the reply!
