or.. to make things much much easier.. simply rename the msn messenger folder in c:\Program Files... then outlook won't know where to look.. and can't open msn messenger :)

Hi,
Do you have Windows Xp ? If so folow these steps:
(1) Go to start, control panel
(2) Click on Performance and Maintenance
(3) Click Administrative tools
(4) Double click on services
(5) Scroll down and highlight Messenger
(6) Right click and choose properties
(7) Click the stop button
(8) Select disable (I beleive you have to click the little arrow on the right side of the white box) to do this step.

Now if MSN is also popping up when you click on Outlook Express, here's what you can do there also:
(1) Go to Outlook Express
(2) Click on Tools
(3) Click on Options
(4) You will see a check mark next to "Automatically log onto MSN Messenger"...Uncheck this and that should eliminate that problem.

Reboot after all that and keep us posted...

I think my question has confused a few people but i still got a answer that works,

Windows messenger IIRC used to pop up on my system, normally telling me about allsorts of unsavoury things, this problem was resolved via either XP SP1 or a update via windows, there is then a windows/msn messenger (IM package thingy) that comes with XP then there is the latest version of MSN Messenger (6.2.1 or something along those lines)

upon opening outlook it automatically opens messenger, but not the new version, rather the old version, one of you said that i can dissable this in outlook, but rather than do that i would like it to open up the new version,

sorry for any confussion

Are there 2 entries of msn messenger in your Add/Remove Programs? The old version and the new?
