Reindexing files

Postby peterjcb » Wed Aug 13, 2003 11:10 pm

Hi, I'm new to this forum and a bit a a newbie. My computer was infected recently with the msblaster worn and somehow I can't see certain files that should be there. Specifically I'm looking for the boot.ini file that should be in the root of my C drive but I can't see it there.
Someone told me that I can reindex my files....how can I do that?
I'm running windows XP Pro SP1.

If your a newbie then dont try anything like reindexing your computer.

Your computer is not missing the boot.ini file... otherwise your computer wouldn't boot up....

Yes, I know that but it was not showing up in the root folder; that was what was confusing me.
I did however solve the mystery. In my tools>folder options>view - the "hide protected operating system files" was selected. I just unselected it and the files showed up.
