rundll error and adware infections.

Postby skmacaitis » Thu Jul 08, 2004 6:37 pm

a couple of days ago, I was infected with some nasty stuff. When I start my computer and startup runs, two error messeages appear.
1. rundll error
"error loading c:\windows\system\stlbdist.dll"
2. rundll error
"error loading c:\windows\bxxs5.dll"

in addition, during normal running time (dsl is always on), another rundll error appears involving a winupd.dll error.

my popup buster is continuely elliminating popups everytime I turn to a new internet page. But some still get through and all are accompanied by the winupd.dll error message.
I had a trojan found by Nortons and it was eliminated and fix.
What is my next step??

If you haven't done so already Download and Install
Ad-Aware

CHECK FOR UPDATES
Set these for a Custom Scan
click the gear wheel at the top and check these options:

General> activate these: "Automatically save log-file" and "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"

Scanning > activate these: "Scan within archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep scan registry", "Scan my IE Favorites for banned sites" and "Scan my Hosts file"

Tweaks > Scanning Engine> activate this: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: activate these: "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Click "Proceed" to save your settings, then click "Start", make sure "Activate in-depth scan" is ticked green then scan your system. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".
Ensure you reboot after running Ad-Aware if it found objects
to remove, so it can properly remove them.

Also Download and run SpyBot
http://www.download.com/redir?pid=10289 ... 89035.html

Let it fix everything it finds.

I agree with Cactus Download / Install / Update / and Run:
SpyBot And Ad-aware.

If you're still having problems download and install HiJackThis
http://tomcoyote.com/hjt/

Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders. This is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem

Post your log here for brad to read.
