Windows MSN starting up in XP Home.

Postby Weta » Tue Jun 22, 2004 11:54 pm

When I boot up my computer, it seems that a hidden version of Windows Messenger is running. The reason I think this is because when I log on to MSN 6.1, an old-style MSN-popup pops up and tells me I've logged on witha different computer..

Anyone here who can give me any tips on this problem? It's annoying.. It happened after I upgraded my MSN (tho' I never noticed an upgrade afterwards, spyware?)

Hi...6.1 is now outdated...6.2 is the latest version and even it has an update.
First goto ADD/REMOVE programs...

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

Remove all instances of MSN Messenger.

Then re-install with newer version...

Thanks liljim, that did the trick :)

It was Windows Messenger 4.7 (not MSN Messenger) which ran completely in the background (no icon in the systray). The process was called msmsgr.exe (MSN Messenger is called msnmsgr.exe).

Thanks to y'all! :)
