(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders. This is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

Sync.exe
DMSERVER.EXE

Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:[/b]

SpywareGuard

Postby badpolarbear » Wed Jun 16, 2004 12:37 pm

I have noticed poor Brad is becoming over worked on the Hijack This logs. I would like to recommend that once people clean out their browser hijackers there is a solution to stop it from happening again.

SpywareGuard is a free program that seems to be working quite well for me.

Here is how it works: You download and install SpywareGuard on your system and allow it to run in the background. Set your homepage to the one of your preference. When and if there are attempts to change your homepage you will get a box like this one below.

Image

It is telling you your homepage has been changed from the one of your choice to one that some one else has choosen for you. You have two options, keep the new value or restore the old value. 99.9% of the time you will want to keep the old value. The only time you will want to keep the new value is if you yourself change homepages.

Since I have installed this little piece of software and run Hijack This I have only had 2 or 3 attempts to change my browser and they have not been successful nor have I had to fool around fixing hijack problems.

Here is the link for SpywareGuard

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html

Perhaps some of the seniors of this forum might like to leave this as a lead post in this forum so as many people as possible will be able to see it.

Hope this is of help to some. Daniel

Good Tool and advise, Daniel.
I would caution that you need to be BHO Hijack free first.

Postby yertregnem » Wed Jun 16, 2004 8:18 pm

Thankyou for all of your replies. But, this one is not goin out without a fight. First of all it seems to be locking my computer up so i cant do anything. Then, when i try to fix the hijcack this log several entries continue to re-appear. All of the ones that wont go away end with C:\windows\secure.html. which coicidentally is the same thing that shows up in my adress bar upon opening IE. Here is the new hijack this log. Please help me, i am confused. :(

re log

Postby badpolarbear » Wed Jun 16, 2004 8:48 pm

Try starting the pc in safe mode and try delete it then. I would also recommend you take the check marks out of LoadPowerProfile in start menu. If you look at the ones you want to get rid of you see they say HK CU etc. You can get to these by going START, RUN, type in regedit and find them there. work your way through the list carefully and delete them in regedit.Daniel

Print the instructions I gave you first. Then do as Daniel suggests, Boot up in "Safe Mode".
Now carry-out the instructions I gave you exactly.
I don't recommend disabling "Load Power Profile", especially if you're on a Laptop.

Postby yert » Fri Jun 18, 2004 4:15 am

Once again, thankyou for all of your help. But, i still cant seem to extinguish it. I tried following your instructions ver betum in safe mode and it seemed to be working, although when i rebooted the menace returned. This is soooooooooo annoying. Any other ideas. Oh and one more question... do you know anyone that makes these hijack programs so i can find them and have my dog attack them?
