Unrecognized cd and dvd drives

Postby greenberet » Sat Aug 02, 2003 7:43 pm

My cd and dvd drives aren't being recognized when I boot up my system. This is a variable occurence, but is becoming more frequent. I've checked all the connections both inside and outside my PC, and they're all secure. I can't figure this one out. How can I get my PC to recognize these drives? They're internal to the PC (they came with the PC when I purchased it). Thanks.

What Windows OS do you use? Also, when you start up, does it try to install new hardware?

Also, how old is the computer and the drives?

Unrecognized CD and DVD Drives

I'm working on Windows ME with a Gateway Performance 1000. It's almost three years old. No new hardware that I am aware of is trying to be installed when it starts.

Did you upgrade your OS from its original, or did it come with ME?

Also... I had this problem with my cd drive once and it was because it had broken... I would recommend contacting the company that makes the products.

Did you open the computer case or anything?

I would still contact the manufacturer.

Yes, I opened the case and made sure that all the connections to and from the CD and DVD were secure and ok. I also made sure that everything else was secure and ok. Everything was.

While you had the case open you might have tripped something and not noticed. I would double check just to make sure. If you still can't get it working, I would still contact the manufacturer.
