Matsonic - MS8188E M/Board Audio Probs

Hello all,

Before Christmas, I purchased a new PC. I set it up, all went well. I recently had 2 trojans sent to me, which forced me to format my HDD. After doing so, It has become impossible for me to install the Audio drivers for my Matsonic MS8188E M/Board. I have had numerous errors saying that the audio chipset had been disabled, but after checking the BIOS, I have discovered that it IS enabled.....

After inserting the Matsonic Drivers CD that i got with my PC, I select the correct board type, and select Audio drivers.This is when the above error occurs, though not every time. If it doesnt, when it says select the source of the drivers to install, it never recognises the CD in my drive :s . I have tried downloading the drivers from various sites, with very litle success.

Any help would be gratefully received, as i am lost without my sound!!!!

Did you try removing your Sound card from Device Manager, copying the CD to your HD, then rebooting and pointing the "Wizard" to the copied files?

You really dont have to tell me how stupid this question is, but where on earth has my device manager gone???!!!!!!!! - I cant find my device manager anywhere, where is it usually?

Right then, I did as Brad said, and couldnt for the life of me find the files i needed from the copied CD. Matsonic arent very good at labling files evidently.

Any other suggestions??

This should be the you need.Create a folder somewhere and name it something obvious,like audio driver...Extract the zip file to the folder you created.Now open the folder to see if theres a setup file or some type of installer..if so,run it.If not,run the wizard again and point to the folder where you extracted the driver to.Let us know if this helps you.

Everything on that tab - Multimedia, Audio, is greyed out, so you cant alter anything.... but the 'Show volume control on taskbar' is checked anyway

I am now more confused than ever.....

After using, the link that Brad gave me, the copied Cd files, the Cd and the Win 98 SE disk, I managed to get the device installed, working properly, no faults and no unknown problems....

but, guess what???

STILL NO SOUND

What on earth can be wrong now???

You may take offense to this but please don't. Are you using "on board" speakers or "stand alone"?
If they're "stand alone" are they plugged-in and turned on?
If you go to Start / Programs / Accessories / Entertainment is the Volume Control listed there? If so, is it muted?
In "Device Manager" are there other sound cards listed? If so, try removing them.

No offence taken mate ;)

The speakers are Hi-fi speakers connected via an AUX lead.
They are most definately turned on, and work (tested a CD).

When i go Programs / Accessories /Entertainment / Volume control and click, nothing actually happens. - Nothing at all.

No there are no other sound cards listed....
I have just checked once more in BIOS - still enabled... bugger

I cant help but notice - It seems to be puzzling you as well as me... ;)

Well, they're all puzzling......
If you go to Control Panel / Multimedia / Audio Tab what is showing in the "Preferred Device" Box? Is it your Sound Device? If not, try the "Drop Down" button and see if yours is there and select it.
