HijackThis problem

I guess I'm fairly computer illiterate. I don't know how to unzip the hijack file. I copied it to the hard drive, but I still get the message that it should somehow be saved to its own file. Also, I ran the scan and backup log, but don't know how to post it back to the thread. I'm going crazy, because I now can't download PDF files, and my business depends on it. I think I need step-by-step directions, if that's possible.
