Halo 2 vista only? what were they thinking?

Postby liljim » Sat Jul 07, 2007 6:36 pm

Has anyone else noticed this? I was strolling around town and decided to stop in and check out some games and spotted Halo 2 for PC. I enjoyed the first one and have been looking forward to the pc release of the sequel for quite a while now. Low and behold, it called out to me from across the room! I gently approached it and ever so softly picked up the box only to find a big logo on it that read FOR VISTA ONLY!!!! It was then that i realized that microsuck has stuck it to us yet again. They took what could have been a great game and married it to the crapiest OS since WinME.

Guess i'll just have to wait on Starcraft II and UT2007 to be released before i get something decent to play.

I know what you mean, but in a way its very clever of them.
They know it had a massive following, halo 1 on pc was rubbish, so i wouldnt even bother with halo 2, probally is better but you know.
If people want to play it, they will upgrade, which is obv there pitch.

Sneeky bill!

Micro$haft at it again. I also found Halo to be rather cack, but then I'm used to half life and I never got round to playing halo online.

Making games that will work on XP but only run on vista is just taking the biscuit! The other game being shadowrun, but not being able to play that isn't really a big loss :P

However, someone has already worked out a way round that for shadowrun. I read that the only reason it couldn't run on XP was because the installer checked to see what the OS is. Vista = pass. XP = fail.
Anyway, they repackaged the installer so it thinks you're using vista, and installs anyway.

The company who said they were going to do something like this, but were beaten to it, is the alky project/falling leaf.

To add to this, DX10 may very well become possible in XP since the only thing that DX10 needed from vista, might be dropped by GPU makers.

Finally, there's masses of games coming out towards the end of this year to keep you busy.
Here's some on my list (all PC games):
Assassins Creed
Bioshock
crysis
quake wars
FEAR Perseus Mandate (another expansion pack)
HL2ep2+Portal+TF2 :D
Left 4 Dead :D
Mercenaries 2
Stranglehold
UT3 (not 2007 :P)

However, I'm expecting a few to be pushed back. at the moment, they are all slated for a 2007 release.
