Creative Soundblaster - can't uninstall/repair/remove

Hello folks.

I have been having problems with my Creative Soundblaster software for a while and today I decided to devote some time (a whole day as it turns out) to trying to get it sorted.

I have been unable to run the software properly due to a faulty instalation methinks.

The situation I am now at is -

I have a 'Clean Sweep' uninstall procedure from Creative Support which I have followed but things are just not happening for me. In Control Panel/Add Remove Progams I have Soundblaster listed. If I click on the Add/Remove button I get a new screen with a dialogue box giving me the option to Modify, Repair, or Remove.

In all cases, no matter what option I select, I get the following error message;

Unhandled Exception
Error Number: 0x80040201
Description: An event was unable to invoke any of the subscribers

Set up will now terminate.

Now if I understood what this was telling me I wouldn't feel quite so bad, but I have started in Safe Mode, done the same things on the uninstall 'clean sweep' process and I get the same error message.

So, does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I am now thinking of going into the Registry and deleting the 'Creative Tech' folder from HK LOCAL MACHINE/SOFTWARE and then trying a reinstall.

Do you think this will fix it or am I pouring worms into a can of spaghetti?

Try deleting this registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{E82BF103-904F-49C0-B77F-6EC110B71E87}
and see if that works

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

I don't have the registry key you suggested.
The folder that holds details on Sound Blaster Live! is
9115E7DB-3B29-445A-802D-11E0AA945B7F

Should I delete this instead?

Within the same folder is a sub-folder called 'Creative Installer Setup'. Do I need to do Anything with this?

There is also a sub-folder called 'Sound Blaster Live' with seemingly not a lot in there. The one record is as follows;

Name = (Default)
Type = REG_SZ
Data = (Value not set)

Do I need to do anything with this?

Cheers guys.
I found 2 solutions to the problems (eventually) on the Creative site and have managed to resolve the problems. And yes it did involve running the CTZAPP utility and deleting info fromthe registry.
Cheers all.
