Hi o0obrian0o0,

First of all let me say I’m glad to see you advancing in VB :)

Although your concept idea of monitoring all directories and subdirectories is great,
there are inherent problems involved here, Windows uses temp files for all kinds of things.
Have you ever noticed that when you have a Word .doc open you will have a hidden temp file in the same directory?
These temp files go by different file types, so the problem is trying to eliminate certain file types.
That’s just for windows and word not to mention any other programs that use temp files.
Monitoring all the directories and subdirectories will use quite a bit of ram too.
Remember there are thousands of directories and subdirectories on the average system.

As for being able to halt the action of adding or deleting of a file it’s going to be tough.
Basically you would have to pause the application that is trying to add a file and
then be able to resume and/or alter that application based on the user’s response of yes or no.

I don’t want to come off like I’m raining on your parade, I feel quite the opposite.
I want to encourage you to advance your VB skills, it’s a great language to learn, you can do some amazing things with it.
Just realize that there are limitations and many other things to think of when designing a program.
I recommend that you check out for a good place to pick up some good source code for free.
