MSWord-problem deleting highlighted text w/backspace key

[JCglobal657]

HI, I have a problem with MS word. When I highlight text (drag mouse or whatever) and use the backspace key it always used to delete the text.
Now for some reason it does not delete the text anymore and I have to highlight then right click and delete from the menu. Kind of a pain in the neck.
I keep anti virus up to date.

I was thinking that maybe one of my kids changes a preference somewhere.

Any help appreciated.
Global.
