Hard Disk Cloning Software

Ive got hold of a copy of Nortons Ghost software but I am now debating whether I should actually ever use it. If I clone a drive does it also clone a drive's messy, unfragged layout?
Isnt just better to back up your most important files regularly in case of a drive failure?

It's always a good Idea to just do regular backups. I only use ghost to clone a drive if I am changing it out for a bigger one. It seems to auto expand the partitions. A big plus in my book. Another tool you can use to clone is called HD Clone. But it Doesn't resize partitions for you. It will however, succeed where ghost fails on read errors.
