Kazaa Lite K++

Postby josh10581 » Thu Jul 29, 2004 5:37 pm

This is a repost because of the database crash. I am having issues with Kazaa Lite K++ as the heading hints. When I install Kazaa, I get an error message "c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts does not exist". I have uninstalled and reinstalled at least 15 times. When I try to run kazaa, I get a window asking if I want to send an error report to Microsoft. I believe that the report says something about Kernel32.dll, but am not completely confident in that. If anyone has ANY idea short of reformatting, PLEASE let me know. If you would rather not post here, email at chocobo105@yahoo.com. Thank you ahead of time.

Go to this site and get a new host file

http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/how_to_use_hosts.html

You might want to get rid of Kazaa and get limeware or emule instead--they're not infested with spyware.

Actually LimeWire for windows is loaded with spyware, and is relatively slow. Kazaa Lite is called Lite because it has no spyware,adware, or banners. It is a hacked version of the Kazaa Media Desktop. Do yourself a favor, stick to either Kazaa Lite, or Bit Torrent. DC is also cool.

I've been using Spy Bot for a long time and have had Limeware running for 6 months with no isssues.

Kazaa lite has issues. The problem comes when you download from a paid subscriber of Kazaa. You won't be able to open the downloads from their machine without a license. A real enjoyable waste of time if your on a dial up modem.

Here is part of what I'm talking about this is a quote from
http://www.wired.com/news/mp3/0,1285,52 ... page_next1

Even Kazaa, the single largest sharing community, has decided to get into the security business. While Davidian can still download any song he wants on that network, soon he will receive a different type of file. Kazaa will be distributing Altnet, a new service that allows entertainment companies to deliver secure content to users ahead of the free files.

"Altnet ... allows us to deliver files from content creators and owners and enables them to establish direct relationships with their end users," said Kevin Bermeister, CEO of Altnet.

The question Centerspan and Altnet -- and the entertainment industry -- is about to have answered is how willing consumers will be to use DRM. If Dividian is any gauge, the answer won't be pleasant for Hollywood.

On recent visits to the House of Blues and Liquid Audio, two sites that offer music in encrypted formats, he found much more frustration than fascination.

"Score minus one for HOB.com (for) not making it clear to downloaders that they may render music downloaded from their site unplayable at any time," Davidian wrote in an e-mail. "Score minus one for not even giving listeners an option to purchase said music to continue listening to it." AP contributed to this report.

KazaaLite K++

Postby Axelation » Tue Aug 10, 2004 1:30 am

:classic: I have been using Kazaa Lite for a while now, I have yet to find spyware on my system. I keep my system clean to the point of running hex editors to clear the memory of old URLs and registry keys that a normal cleaner can't or won't find. If there were spyware on my machine, Trust me, I would know about it. The first day that I tried the so called "faster" Limewire, I found not only spyware, but a lot of crappy download speeds and time outs. I now use Kazaa Lite for Windows, and LimeWireLinux for when I am in Linux. Mostly, because it is harder to get spyware on a linux box and I rarely download anything that is popular in the charts, so it is not likely that someone would be so concerned about sharing it. Despite what the media says or what some article reads, If I can't find it on my machine, it ain't there. If you have found spyware, it was from a download, and not from KazaaLite in itself.

Now, Kazaa Media Desktop however is LOADED with spyware. is it possible we are talking about this version of Kazaa? :?:
