so i put in an old1. 2gb hard disk LOL
i dug out from my collection of pc junk and installed win 98 (not big enough for xp)and it works fine apart from not having correct video driver.so i think maybe the hard drive is knackered seems strange that i could access it ok from my other pc though.the wonderful world of pc fixing and another saturday caned....thanks for the response i will let u know if it works....
