I can get it to work when I go to new hardware and install it .but I have to choose select it my self,and have disk.But when i reboot I get Configuration Error message. Then sends me to setup utility,disk drive has something like >next to it.if i hit enter it shows, first boot disk drive A.--- 2nd. cd-rom,---3rd. hard disk. but when i go to start up options. it says cd-ron not installed. every time i reboot i have a error message and i have to go to the setup utility,befor windows will come up. I am running windows 98 Help please.

It sounds like the CDrom isn't installing. What is the brand and model of the CDrom? I'll see if I can find what you need.

Did you run the Software.exe from Samsung?
Here's the download if you didn't: .
I would remove the device from "Device Manager" (If it's there) then shut down the computer and unhook the CDrom. Reboot and run the Software.exe. Shutdown and hook the CDrom back up and reboot. Windows should detect and install the hardware.

Hi I tried what you suggested,but it didn't work for me. But I couldn't get annything from the Samsung sight.But I downloaded befor from another sight and got the driver ect. So I installed that,but it still didn't recognize the cd-rom.----------when I go to add new hardware wizard it gives me 3 Manufactures,the 1st. is MITSUMI. under it there were 3 Models,one was for a double speed drive,one was a newer single speed,and the other one was older single speed. Next was MKEPanasonic[Matsushita-Kotobuki Electronics Industries Ltd.] It only has one cd-rom drive,and the last one listed was Sony Corp. and it had a Sony Proprietary CD-Rom Controller.I Did go back and looked at the files on the disk I downloaded and I found a readme,but I don't quite know what I am looking at.I am going to see if I can move it hear so you can see it,I think it has to do with Dos.

====================================
Tips on using MSCDEX.EXE switch
====================================

1. [ /M:10 ]
It is the added switch in AUTOEXEC.BAT when running CDSETUP.EXE.
( Not specified in the user's manual)

===========================================
Tips on using SSCDROM.SYS switches
( Not specified in the user's manual)
===========================================

1. [ /P:xxx,yy,z ]
Specifies the IDE port that is connected to the drive, and the interrupt request.
Where
* xxx is the IDE port address
xxx = 1f0 : Primary (Channel 1)
170 : Secondary(Channel 2)
1e8 : Channel 3
168 : Channel 4

* yy is the Interrupt channel.
yy = 14 : Primary (Channel 1)
15 : Secondary (Channel 2)
11 : Channel 3
10 : Channel 4

* z is the Master/Slave selection.
z = 0 : Master
1 : Slave

Note: If /p:xxx,yy,zz is valid,the device driver will only test that
specific IDE port, and skip the auto-detection. If the /p switch is
not used or if any parameter is invalid, the device driver will still use
auto-detection algorithm.

For example, when the CD-ROM drive is connected to the secondary port using
interrupt 15 as slave, the syntax in the CONFIG.SYS file should be as follows:

Device = C:\SAMSUNG\SSCDROM.SYS /D:SSCD000 /P:170,15,1 /V

2. [ /V ]
Displays CD-ROM Drive Model Name and Firmware Version.

Are you sure the IDE cable and the Power cable are seated properly?

make sure that the jumper is set to master , then run the auto detect, if not might be faulty or your motherboard doesnt support it
