petalyn47,

It sounds like he turned on "Sticky Keys"
Go to Start > Control Panel > Accessibility Options > Keyboard tab > uncheck Sticky keys > click Apply

return to where Gecko told you and uncheck "use filter keys" Click the settings button to the right of that and uncheck "use shortcut" click ok and you should have your keyboard back.

Thanks a lot guys- I had tried all that stuff, and no go, so I have now reinstalled the keyborad drivers, and all is well.

But........wish I knew what caused it, as I can't be watching him every minute!

if you hold the right shift key down for more than 8 seconds you enable windows filter keys, that should have been the pop up box he saw. What i forgot to tell you is that if you press both shift keys it will turn it back off. If you followed my previous instructions, you wont have to worry about it happening again.

this is what your settings should look like to prevent this from happening again.
