I switched on my old PC after lying idle for about two months and it came up witha thermal error, probably cause the fan didnt come on. It worked fine there for a few days.
Now, when I switch it on, the HD spins up but no picture. After about 1 min the PC switches itself off again.
Its a Dell P4 (Dimension 3000 I think) operating on XP2, 1Gb of RAM.
Im thinking the mobo is fried...
ANy ideas ???

do you get any beeps?
Theres honestly a few things that could be wrong, one possibility and perhaps the easiest to test is the power supply, that is if you have another one around you could test with.
The board could be it too but i wouldnt say for sure until everything else is eliminated.

If it was the PSU surely it wouldnt even switch on ??? It IS switching on but switches back off again after about a minute with no picture showing.

I pulled out the RAM and tried booting. It beeped. Does this mean the board is ok ??
It still keeps shutting back off...could do it after 2 seconds or 1 minute.
I'm suspecting the hdd. I can hear it making an attempt to spin up every few seconds but it doesnt quite get there. Could this mean the hdd is knackered...or could it be beacuse of the psu ??
