My computer specs are
Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU2.99 GHz
1.99 GHz, 512 MB of RAM. I have a 9800 ati radeon pro videocard. I think I found some good ram to buy....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145026
Will this speed up my games? And how would I know if my computer will allow it?Should I buy more ram or somethingelse? I can spend around $100

if u have a dual channel motherboard wid 400 mhz mem on it then ull be fine as long as there all 184 pin it'll work fine even if the speeds aint the same it'll still work but obviously widout dual channel speed which effectivly doubles ur memory speed so its definately worth checkin the mhz make ur the pins fit though lol thats da main thing 4 real an yeah a gig is fine 4 games im movin 2 a gig in a week or so, as well remember 400 ddr means anything up 2 it i dunno bout u but my motherboard allows up 2 600mhz if the processor is 800mhz fsb

oh yeah it sounds 2 me as though ur boards restricting ur processor speed u know whyd u write 2.99 an under it put 1.99 p4 shouldnt do that no processor should apart frm amds u usin a faster cpu than ur motherboard can handle? u might need new bios settings an drivers i had that same problem thats 1 of the reasons im upgrading i had a ht 2.8 on this board but it woz bein restricted 2 wot my celeron woz 1.4 actually its woz a 2.4 but u know there slows as [deleted by moderator] an ive played doom on a 1.5 p4 as well an there the same 4 real

Please download
It should tell you everything you need to know about what type of Ram you need
also how many Ram slots your motherboard has

Also look in the mother board manual. Most boards that work with that CPU will hold 512mb sticks in each slot.

If you have one stick of 512, I would try to match it exactly if possible with the same brand and type.

XP isn't going to improve much on total memery over 1 gig. If you have a board that supports dual in line memory, matching the other stick of memory will actually simulate what 2 gigs of regular memory would give you --overkill in this case.

Pay particular attention to the designated slots that have to be used for dual in line memory. Usually a 3 slot board, its 1 and 3, and for a 4 slot memory board its 1 and 3.

Remember,UNPLUG THE COMPUTER BEFORE MESSING WITH THE MEMORY. The board is always hot if it is plugged into the wall.
