PC Cooling

Just replaced my Graphics Card with an NVidia FX5900 and, to go with it, an upgraded PSU.

Since then I've noticed that there is a significant increase in heat around the case, which is by my legs, in the 'knee hole', underneath the desk .

The cpu temperature has gone up to around 55-60 (whereas before it was 45-50). Also, it is now quite uncomfortable sitting there with all the heat that the fan is chucking out of the case!

I have seen that you can get extra case fans, but, am worried that this would just throw out more of the hot air.

Anyone got any suggestions for how I can 'cool it'? - going bacvk to the old Graphics Card/PSU is one!!!!!!

Hello MysteryMan

I think extra case fans would help you. They won't create more heat they will keep it cooler if anything.
Another option is to place a house fan towards the case with the side open and try to keep it cool that way but that's not best way. Actually I wouldn't suggest leaving the side off for any length of time.

I agree with Geekgirl that more fans will resolve your problem.

No need to go into the thermal dynamics of case cooling.
Basically you want to move more air through your system,
thus giving the moving air less time to heat up.
So the air around the knee hole will be cooler too. :)

I think two 80mm case fans should do the job for you.
Place one fan in the front blowing into the case and one in the back blowing out of the case.

If you need help installing the new fans just post back here and I will walk you through it.

Hey guys, I have a question regarding cooling fans. Does it make any different if you install the fan all the other way round?

Thanks for the info!

Are any fans better than others?

Also, when you say one in the front and one in the back.....do I need to cut holes in the case to accomiodate them or is it a question of just fitting them inside the case?

Sorry to be so naive!
