Manual for the board at the link above showes jumper settings for a 700mhz CPU.

this page sais that max memory is 256 and there are 2 slots for memory. If you currently have a single 128, simply buing another 128 would get you 256. If you have two 64meg chips, you'll have to buy two 128mb chips, or deal with 128 + 64 = 192

as far as processor upgrade, even if you would go from 400 to 700 (75% increase), it's very doubtful you'll see more than a 10-15% increase in actual performance. Since you would not be upgrading the speed in which your comptuer can talk to it's Memory, Hard drive, video card, and other devices, there is likely to be minimal real-life situations where a CPU upgrade would help.

it would help doing things like compressing and uncompressing files, SETI computation, and encoding music. It would not help much in Microsoft Office, browsing the internet, and most common windows tasks.

Sorry to bump this from so long ago, but it seemed easier than trying to explain it all over again. If I did a bad..............so sorry! :(

anyhoo.......I decided to try an upgrade ($40 bucks, what the hey!)
I bought a 700mhz Pentium III 100mhz 256k FCPGA Socket 370 CPU. I installed it and if you would refer to the manual that Old_Fart was kind enough to link to a few posts above, my jumper settings for a 466 and a 700 should be the same...... 1&3 on, 2&4 off.
I did change the JP5 jumpers to 2 & 3. But all I get at the boot stage is a black screen with "please check signal cable" message. (I did check all the cable connections several times), I changed the JP5 jumper back, but to no avail. I'm positive the new CPU was installed correctly, as there is only one way it will fit, I tried several times to take it out and put it back thinking it may not be connecting exactly right, all the "prongs" are straight and true, so I don't thing that it is anything physical.
I re-installed the 466 and everything works fine (once I changed JP5 back) so I know my problem is with the CPU itself. Or am I missing something? Can anyone here read that manual and catch something I'm missing? a different jumper setting? maybe something to do with the BIOS? do I need a driver upgrade? or will this dang CPU just not work on this motherboard and I wasted $40?

Like I said....., and you can tell,....... I know just enough to be dangerous!
So, please forgive,....... my ignorance knows no bounds! :|

Appreciate any advice. (except buying a whole new setup.......I already know that!! )

Thanks!

Well I'm sorry to hear the MOBO won't support the chip you bought.
At least it was only $40.00 instead of $400.00..... :)
