USB freeze up problem

Postby JiGGaFan » Wed May 12, 2004 7:19 pm

I've been having this problem on my PC for a while. OS is XP Pr
SP1. The problem is that whenever I connect a USB device (whether
it's my Mini Disc player, camera card reader, printer, cell phone)
WHILE THE PC IS ON ALREADY, it locks my system up. It will be
frozen.. If I reset my system, the devices work fine and my system
works as usual. I'm not exactly sure how long the problem has been
there. Was wondering if you guys knew what the problem was or some
things I should try...

512 SDram 133
Athlon Xp 2200
Lite-on 812s DVD burner
Integrated video and sound (I don't game or watch movies with my system)
20 Gig WD Hard Drive 2mb buffer for OS and programs
80 Gig WD Hard Drive 2mb buffer for data( music, movies)

USB ports use "Human Interface Device" drivers.

If this driver is missing or corrupt, your computer will more than likely freeze. actually, it will.

Your best bet would be to either:

1. Download a USB driver from this site:

Install the driver into the appropriate folder on your computer and try again. If that doesnt work...

2. Re-Install Windows.

That's all the help Ive got for this topic. Hopefully it helps.

go into device manager and remove all of the usb devices--then shut down, remove all usb devices from you compter and boot up. Install the usb devices again one at a time--pay attention to what usb port you use for each device. The computer remembers which slot it was in before--put it in a different slot, you get a hic-up.
