So, with all that being said I am trying to install this: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid ... BP&cat=CPU

When I install the cpu, and try to boot, the screen just stays blank/black. I upgraded the PSU to see if it was a power issue, still no go. Any advice?

that link goes nowhere but i see an unrelated issue. The memory is a mess, that mismatched 2 gig and 512 meg stick. Myself, i would pull that 512 out, it shows that your on a 32 bit OS and it cant read that 512 anyhow. Repost that link or more info and ill try to help figure out whats going on.

I'm fully aware of the memory issue. The computer I bought had vista x86 and I upgrade to windows 7 x86. Really wishing I would have just installed Windows 7 x64 then I couls utilize the RAM that I bought and what came with the system.

Anyway, regarding the link: try this one, not sure why it didnt work:

The processor wont work in that board because its a socket AM3 and the board only supports AM2. Was a good buy for $5 but it wont work in this machine.

Specifications:

Manufacturer: Intel ( OEM for Dell Inspiron 531 )
Dell Part #: RY206 0RY206
Socket: AM2
Expansion Slots: PCI: 2 Slots / PCIe x1: 1 Slot / PCIe x16 (Graphics): 1 Slots
Connectors: (4) Back USB Ports, Network LAN
Video: Onboard
Audio: Onboard
Supported Memory: DDR2
Maximum Memory: 4 Dual Channel DIMM
