I have an HP deskjet 6540 that was working perfectally fine up until I upgraded to windows 7. now when ever I attempt to print pdf files to it it just prints a bunch of random lines (not lines of text either just lines) I tried using the windows drivers and downloading the HP drivers as suggested by HP but neither appears to fix the problem.

This is almost always a driver issue. Can you delete the printer from your PC and readd it using the new drivers? When you install the new drivers, does it give you the option to overwrite the old files?

Also, make sure you have the latest version of Adobe reader installed.

I've reinstalled the drivers and it does ask to write over which I say yes to. Also Adobe is currently at Version 10

a more indepth search turned up that these Compaqs don't always install the ariel fonts correctly so you need to locate the install file on the computer and install it manually.
