I have a single diamond radeon 5850 overclocked to 900/1200. Is it worth it to upgrade to a 5970? I have sufficient power, cooling ect and I cannot fit 2 gpus in my case (because of a sound card and wireless card) so xfire is out of the question.

I only game at 1920 x 1080 but would like a card that will be able to max out all upcoming games (crysis 2, gothic 4, rage, ect) for the next 6 months to a year (thinking about getting a larger monitor as well). All my games max right now except crysis and metro 2033.

Is the performance boost worth it? Does upgrading now make sense for the long run?

Personally, id say no. Your card should handle what your wanting with no problems. That 5970 is a big bad monster of a card but i'd wait until i was just completely unhappy with my current cards performance before dropping $800 bucks on another one. By the time you will actually need it, it will probably be half the cost.
