Odd click at startup

Postby Llew » Mon Feb 23, 2004 6:55 pm

Following a move, I have developed a couple nagging issues. While booting, following the usual single short POST beep, I hear a single click, (or chirp) - no messages, and everything functions. I find no refrences in any BIOS info what the click is about, but have a feeling that it must mean something. I've tried reseating and moving cards, reseated memory and the checked the CPU - still clicks. The other issue (unrelated?) is that I can no longer connect to my dial-up ISP (stops prior to actual connection). Have dial tone, modem passes diagnostics, and find that I can connect to a backup free ISP service fine. Machine is home assembled with ASUS A7V333-X board, with Award BIOS, AMD XP 2200, 256 MB PC 2700 RAM, ATI 9000 video, internal full hardware V92 modem, SBLive value, running W2KPro. Appreciate any suggestions.

Some PCMCIA cards have "chirp" during startup.
Award Bios codes say that any additional beep refers to Ram.
Can you swap the stick(s) with another?
I'd possibly check with your ISP about their problem as it sounds as if the modem may be fine.
