PC Not Booting Up

I have an Acer computer I bought about 4 years ago. It has Windows Vista. It has been working fine until the last couple weeks. I would turn it on and get nothing but a black screen. I tried turning it off and on again and it would start up Vista. This happened a few times within the past weeks.

Unfortunately, now when I turn it on, I just get a black screen. Nothing at all when turn off and then back on again except a black screen.

Any suggestions on what might cause this? I'm thinking a bad hard drive but not sure.

na if you had any bad hardware you would hear a bunch of beeps on boot you might want to try a different monitor
