PCI-E question

Postby Kzz5 » Wed Dec 13, 2006 1:13 am

i got a new motherboard, its a sli motherboard and it says in sli mode each card runs at 8x, then it says single card runs at 8x, is that right? i thought they ran at 16x or something, is this motherboard going to make my new graphics card (8800gts) run slower?

or is it called 16x because sli is 8 and 8

It's my understanding that with SLI mode both northbridge and the southbridge are used.
Thus enabling the use of all16 connectors on a SLI PCI express 16 card.

is a good article on pci-express, it's a little old but should answer any question about SLI in pci-e.

You will have to do a repair install/upgrade once the new motherboard is installed.
That way you will keep all of your installed programs and data.
