Postby ti4200 » Mon Sep 26, 2005 7:42 am

Hi

Was working on a acer travelmate 650. Went to run a diagnostic program the computer froze. On restart it asked to enter password on the initial screen before boot. I turned it off and on again and now just shows a blank screen ?? it seems its getting worse and worse is there any way i can give this thing a hard reset to clear this problem

edit: removed the ram and it now is back to the password screen

Thank you for assistance

also called the manufacturer and they are out of ideas also device just went of warranty.. how convinient

On Desktops PCs you can switch a jumper to reset to factory defaults. I don't know if you can or can not with a laptop.

yea did some googling and apparently you can take out the cmos batery and it will reset but also some computers store the setting in non volatile memory therefore battery wont work so have to short the battery or like u say to for jumper stting or dipswitch anyone where any of these settings are on the Acer Travelmate 650

thank you

If you forget your password, you will
need to take your computer to an Acer Customer Service Center.
They can reset your password for a minimal charge

You can launch Acer eRecovery Management by pressing the hotkey <Alt> + <F10> during the boot-up process
This will open the Acer eRecovery Management main page.
Acer eRecovery Management requires a password to activate. The default
password is six zeros (0s).

By selecting to restore the factory default image, you will restore your
computer to its original state. All your data and any programs installed by you
will be lost.

when you say alt + f10 are you presuming the computer gets to the cdrom post etc... ?

the password comes on before anything else comes up and i also cant enter the bios setup. this laptop has been used by me for a year never with a password on it though after running a hard disk diagnostic from the UBCD the computer froze during the diagnostic program and when restarted the following problem occurred.

i will try your suggestoin and thank you for your assistance
