gedit has not been able to detect the character coding. Please check that
you are not trying to open a binary file.
Select a character coding from the menu and try again

This sounds similar to your other problem.

Try:

sudo ./ati-driver-installer-8.28.8.run

It sounds like you are trying to open it in gedit which is a text editor. Maybe you are just clicking on it? Open a terminal and do:

First change to the directory where the file is located by doing this:
cd /home/kc/Desktop/

Then run the script by doing this:
sudo ./ati-driver-installer-8.28.8.run

or this:
sudo sh ati-driver-installer-8.28.8.run

NOTE: the "sudo" command is going to prompt you for your password, but it is necessary to run the script as root.
