I have been thinking about trying Linux. A buddy of mine sent me two different version on cd the other day and Im curious as to which would be my best bet as a new user. There is SuSe Personal 9.1 and there was 2 disks for Ubuntu, one Live cd and the other Install cd. Which way do I go, which way do I go?

for someone who has never setup a linux machine before,i would recommend Mandrake 10.The hardware detection has drasticly improved which makes setting it up alot easier.

You should run the Live CD you already have,that will atleast give you a linux enviroment to play with and learn on.Just boot from the disk and your off.

Now my second question Jim is .... I have 2 HD's. Can I set up my pc so that I have Windows on the 40 gig and Linux on the 30gig and I can switch back and forth at any given time?

Thanks pcguy. The 2 versions I have are Ubuntu ans SuSe 9.1. I looked at Mandrake but I have a concern. In order to download it i would imagine it would take a long time. My dialup connection runs at a max of 24,600. For example the other day I downloaded a program 120mb. I started the download at 8:00pm and it finished at 10:00 am the next day and when all was said and done there was some corruption some where.

So I guess what Im saying is I have the disks that I was given, one seems to have a fairly extensive instruction manual so I sort of have to go from there.

If you really want to try it out BPB,i can send you the disk for Mandrake 10 CE.This is the version that was freely released to the general public.

Gee Jim that would be mightyful nice of ya'll. Would more of those disks like I sent you the last time be of any value. My buddy says he has a stack of them again.
