Installation help!!

Postby peckr1210 » Sat Feb 14, 2004 10:57 am

I am trying to install XP onto a pc which currently has NT on it. I want to remove NT and replace it with XP but How?

I am trying to boot with the XP OS disc in the pc to install but nothing happens it just boots up NT as usual??

It seems that the pc doesn't even recognise any disc in the drive?

Please help it is driving me mad because it is a mates pc and I thought I could do it for him...

Apparently it is a piece of piss?

Have you checked the BIOS to make sure that the CD Rom is in the boot up sequence?

While the system is just starting to boot up there should be something on the screen about how to enter setup.
The most common method is to press the Delete key while the boot screen is just showing,
before windows starts to load, to get into the BIOS.
Once you are in the BIOS look for the boot up sequence setting,
use the page up and page down keys to change the boot sequence so the CD Rom is first.

There is an easy work-around for this problem.
Go to www.bootdisk.com and download a Win98se startup boot disk file
Extract the boot disk file to a floppy disk and use this floppy to start the system.
Select start system with CD Rom support.
Now at the command prompt type “ cd D: ” (where D is you CD Rom drive) now just type setup and the install should start.
