Blaster Worm/PC Rebooting Continuously

Postby shelldawn » Thu Feb 12, 2004 3:31 am

I have a PC with the Blaster Worm and while working on the repair it began rebooting without my input. It won't go past the Windows screen and when I try safe mode it doesn't make it that far either. I can't run any of the patches because I can't get into windows or even a dos prompt. Any suggestions?

Celeron Processor
Windows XP Home Edition

128 mb ram

1) Boot up your computer.
2) Click the "Start" button
3) Down at the bottom of the start menu, click "Run..."
4) Type cmd
5) Click OK
6) Type the following and press "Enter": shutdown -a That will stop your computer from shutting down.
7) Go to this page:
9) Follow their directions to download and run the Symantic FixBlast removal tool.

It'll let me choose to go into Safe Mode but the PC reboots before I get there.

Since you're unable to get the PC to boot, try this. (Its free :))

http://www.europe.f-secure.com/download ... ools.shtml

Grab the file

ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/free/fp-312d.zip

Extract

F-PROT.EXE The main program (DOS version).
SIGN.DEF DOS/Windows virus search/disinfection data.
SIGN2.DEF Trojan and Java/Script/BAT/Other virus search data.
MACRO.DEF Word/Excel virus search/disinfection data.
NOMACRO.DEF An "empty" version of MACRO.DEF.
ENGLISH.TX0 An English message file.
*.TXT Some documentation files, including this one.
*.ASC PGP signature files.

to a floppy disk.

Boot the infected computer into DOS (Using a Boot Disk http://www.bootdisk.com if you dont have one).

At the command prompt insert the f-prot floppy and type a:\F-PROT.EXE

shelldawn - you can use a 98 or ME bootdisk. The goal is just to get to the DOS prompt.
